OCTOBER 18th is the feast of ST LUKE the EVANGELIST.
This Gospel writer was a man of science which reminds us that even under intense scrutiny and testing, the truth of God can stand firm. This hasn’t always been the case, and there are many instances when those on both sides of science and religion have caused a great deal of suspicion and harm to one another. If done properly both science and religion are in many ways the same thing: the pursuit of truth.
The prayer (below) for St Luke’s feast days encourages unity. St Luke encourages us to push deeply into our doubts so that even there we can discover God waiting.
Let us pray: Lord God, you chose Saint Luke to reveal the mystery of your love for the poor in his preaching and his writings. Grant that those who already acknowledge your name may continue to be one in mind and heart, and that all the nations may see your salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Fact: Did you know that the ‘Big Bang Theory’* was first proposed by a priest!
