The THIRD SUNDAY of Advent is known as GAUDETE SUNDAY.
The latin word Gaudete means ‘rejoice’. Advent is mainly a season of preparation and penance to ready ourselves for celebrating Christmas and in hope of Christ’s return.
The liturgical colour of Advent is purple. The colour of Christmas is white. The colour of Gaudete Sunday is rose, a blend of both purple and white. This colour represents of the nearness of God’s coming but also our need to continue to make ourselves ready.
We are to rejoice whilst we wait. To be joyful. This is an important message for now; while we wait for Christmas. for Brexit? For whatever is on the horizon of our lives. We should be grateful for what we have and look forward to what God will do in the future.
We pray for an increase in patience so that we might rejoice whilst we wait: Our Father…
Think: Using your fingers think of 5 things you are grateful for, and 5 things you are looking forward to.
