Every pupil that began St Joan of Arc in Year 7 would have participated in a retreat day when we looked at the life of JONAH.
The FIRST READING of SUNDAY’S MASS comes from the Book of Jonah. In the reading we see Jonah entering Nineveh (the capital city of the enemies of the Jews), warning them they they will be destroyed unless they repent – and the whole city does! What we don’t get from this small extract is that Jonah didn’t want to go to Nineveh with God’s message of repentance, he would rather them be destroyed!
What we can learn from the story of Jonah, is that God is merciful, and he will use even our minimal cooperation to show his love and mercy to the world.
Let us pray that we would willingly allows ourselves to be used to bring God’s mercy to others, especially our enemies as we pray: Our Father…
Act: Who is God calling you to bring a message of peace to? Perhaps its someone who your’e angry with.
