On FEBRUARY 11th, the Church remembers the Blessed Virgin Mary appearing to Saint Bernadette in the French town of Lourdes. This feast is known as OUR LADY OF LOURDES. Although this feast is trumped by Sunday this year – it still bears reflection.
Lourdes is one of the world’s most popular pilgrimage locations and is renowned today as a place of great healing. Therefore, healing is a major theme of this feast. Many parishes have healing services around this time and those who are preparing to travel to Lourdes in groups such as the HCPT, gather together to prayerfully prepare for their pilgrimage.
Perhaps we could all try asking Our Lady of Lourdes, to pray for us, for healing, or for healing of somebody that we know. The great thing about Mary is that she continues to pray even when we might have given up ourselves. So let us call to mind someone we know who needs God’s healing power… We pray: Hail Mary…
Pray: Be persistent in prayer.
