When I was at school we had this old priest come in occasionally to say Mass. He was lovely and kind but I didn’t find him particularly interesting or engaging… but what I do remember is that he would always recite the prayer of St Richard of Chichester who feast day it is today (16/6). It is a prayer that I remember because of this priest’s simple repetition. It’s also a prayer of gratitude, which is a great way to start ANY prayer. Here it is: Thanks be to Thee, my Lord Jesus Christ, For all the benefits Thou hast given me, For all the pains and insults Thou hast borne for me. O most merciful Redeemer, friend and brother, May I know Thee more clearly, Love Thee more dearly, Follow Thee more nearly. Amen.
