Last Sunday’s Gospel was a bit of two-edged sword. On one hand Jesus tells us three times to ‘do not be afraid. He also tells us of our worth to God, comparing us with sparrows. . But the passage ends with this: “So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. But the one who disowns me in the presence of men, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.” . It’s hard for me to think about this text and not have some anxiety – do I ‘declare myself for God’ in the presence of others, or do I hide my faith in certain situations and crowds?’. Does this apply to my whole life or just specific occasions? Or perhaps it’s just here to stop us from getting complacent and taking God’s mercy for granted? 🥵🤯 . For me, it’s a reminder to be a bit bolder with my faith . . . . . #gospel #mass #catholic #bible #Jesus #christian #yearoftheword @rcwestminster @dowym @sthelenswatford
