24TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME . See the video at youtube.com/theChaplaincy . Throughout SUNDAY’S MASS READINGS we read a lot about FORGIVENESS. Forgiveness, or more specifically UN-forgiveness is a really big deal that affects so many people. Many find it really difficult to let go of the hurt caused by other people. . The First Reading from Ecclesiasticus says this: “Resentment and anger, these are foul things… He who exacts vengeance will experience the vengeance of the Lord… Forgive your neighbour the hurt he does you, and when you pray, your sins will be forgiven… If a man nurses anger against another, can he then demand compassion from the Lord?… Remember [what is important], and stop hating… Remember the commandments, and do not bear your neighbour ill-will.” . God commands these things for our own good. The truth is that unforgiveness hurts the victim more than it affects the offender. It’s like drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer. In reality, forgiveness it not so much about the other person, but about freeing ourselves from the burden and heaviness – from the imprisonment – that resentment, anger and unforgiveness traps us in. . In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that our forgiveness should know no limits, not so that we get walked all over – but so that Jesus can free us from the burdens that unforgiveness brings. . Let us pray that God would help us to forgive those who have hurt us so that we might known the peace and freedom that forgiveness offers us as together we say Our Father… . #catholic #church #prayer #Jesus #god #pray #prayer #reflection #meditation #gospel #bible #saint #feast #catholiceducation @rcwestminster @dowym
